400018 Lonicera 'Novosa' 'HONEY BABY'
Following a very specific criteria, Plant Breeders and scientists at the Boskoop Research Station for Ornamental Horticultural, The Netherlands wanted to create a compact growing lonicera that would exhibit the heavy flowering and fragrance of Lonicera ‘Halliana’. It flowers in racemes together, buds, purplish-red tinted, open creamy yellow, turning to orange-yellow, very aromatic. Flowering time is June-November. The leaves are elliptic to ovate, dull-shiny dark green. It grows very stocky and bushy, sometimes with branches climbing to 2m high, easily kept pruned. This rather dwarf form is suitable for growing as a potted plant. Two climbing cultivars, Lonicera japonica ‘Halliana’ and Lonicera periclymenum ‘Belgica Select’ were chosen and crossed to breed this relatively small bush plant called "Honey Baby"™. The breeding process and selection took ten years and we think you will agree the resulting cultivar is a "must have" for any garden. "Honey Baby" t.m. produces a profusion of flowers all summer long, varying in colour from cream and light yellow to yellow. From dusk to dawn this honeysuckle spreads a very pleasant fragrance. The plant is winter hardy and requires no special location. "Honey Baby" t.m. performs well if it is cut back each year, it is an excellent pot plant for the balcony and outdoor living space. Lonicera "Honey Baby"® belongs to the family caprifoliaceae, the Honeysuckles. The honeysuckle is comprised of about 180 species including 32 species of climbers and is a native plant in the Northern Hemisphere. There are many cultivated varieties of honeysuckle, and this together with Lonicera 'Darts World' are outstanding NEW INTRODUCTIONS to our hardy and evergreen climbing plant range.
